An operator - based approach to upscaling thepressure
Permeability and porosity parameters of a porous medium are known only in a statistical sense. For risk assessment, one must perform multiple ow simulations of a single site, varying these input parameters. Because multiple simulations of large sites are computationally prohibitive, upscaling from ne to coarse scales is necessary. Traditional upscaling techniques determine a new eeective or ups...
متن کاملA Least - Squares Approach for Upscaling and the Accelerationof
A new method to determine upscaled eeective permeability tensors based on a least squares approach is presented. These tensors are optimal in a certain sense and may in some cases be used to accelerate the solution procedure in reservoir simulations over several time steps by providing a better initial guess at each time step. This has been numerically tested in a reservoir simulator named SOM.
متن کاملMorphodynamic models of communication
Morphodynamics means 'the dynamics of form', and the purpose of morphody-namic theories is to describe and explain the birth, evolution, and death of form. The term 'form' is used differently in different sciences, but the notions of discontinuity and organisation seems to recur in most uses. A central question is: how can continuous changes of an amorphous substance, such as increasing the vel...
متن کاملA Bounded Random Matrix Approach for Stochastic Upscaling
A maximum entropy (MaxEnt) based probabilistic approach is developed to model mechanical systems characterized by symmetric positive-definite matrices bounded from below and above. These matrices are typically encountered in the constitutive modeling of heterogeneous materials, where the bounds are deduced by employing the principles of minimum complementary energy and minimum potential energy....
متن کاملModern comprehensive approach to monitor the morphodynamic evolution of a restored river corridor
River restoration has become a common measure to repair anthropogenically-induced alteration of fluvial ecosystems. The inherent complexity of ecohydrologic systems leads to limitations in understanding the response of such systems to restoration over time. Therefore, a significant effort has been dedicated in the recent years worldwide to document the efficiency of restoration actions and to p...
